My goal for Terry Fox run was to do a Marathon Distance (42.2 Km / 26.2 Miles) on Sunday, 18th September. I reached the venue after the initial part of the run, wanting to complete the rest with the assigned 10K run with all the participants.
I reached the venue, a little early, very tried & exhausted, but spending time with few of the runners, prior to the running & meeting people during the run, I realized that life gave me more than just a community to run with.
– A very young couple doing their first every distance, as they are battling their 4-year-old, battling cancer, since the last 3 months.
– Cooper (age 9) doing his run, to give back as there have been friends & acquaintances close to the family that have lost their loved one.
– Peter, doing his 40th Terry Fox run for the cause that he believes in
– An 80+ year old man doing his run, to battle his disintegrating body
– And many more
Every person hurts different and it is no one’s place to tell you that you are “so much better off”, because when you’re hurting nothing else matters.
What I learnt on that day, was from few of the runners’ that life throws experiences that has been changing them, changing them as a person and making them stronger. I realized life can teach you that no matter what circumstance you are in, during the run, the people had a commonality, that you will be okay, and that it will pass. That’s when I got the lesson of resilience, on how to become emotionally strong person.
Whether its a maze of events you think you’ll never leave, or just a rough patch in life, my hope and prayer was they, will find the way out.
It’s very confusing and when your life makes you feel very incognizant, confused and insignificant in this ginormous world, What I realized and saw on that day was
1) People making themselves strong enough to give off the warmth and light of a thousand suns.
2) Making themselves so confident that when they step five miles outside of their comfort zone, they have nothing to be scared of.
3) I saw life teaches you that it’s okay to cry when you feel like the weight of all your problems is crashing down on your shoulders.
4) I realized, that you are more than your tears, and life teaches you to give yourself time, because in time there is hope and in hope there is change.
During the run I was filled with hope and a prayer that:
-
That they get the help that they need. There are times even the strongest concrete pillars come crashing down and end up where they started – on flat barren land.
-
I hoped that life teaches you that you are never alone, and hope life teaches you to accept every aspect of the universe and embrace the unknown with the desire to stand strong, because no matter what that is, you have the courage to keep you going.
-
I hope life gives you more happy moments. I hope it gives you more than a million different reasons to wake up every morning when you contemplate whether it’s worth it or not.
-
I hope life gives you the passion. You may not have the people that you want in your life at the moment. I hope life finds them for you. You might feel as though you are not the person that you want to be. But my prayer & hope, one day, you will become something as wonderful as the sunrise that you see out your window very morning.

I Hope Life Gives You Enough to Keep You Going

I realized the power of this year’s Terry Fox Org, slogan ‘I am not a quitter’. I had started a fundraiser for this year, the donations were not much, but does that stop me from taking on goals as these. It’s a resounding NO.
